Training Sessions: Short and Sweet

By Raina Townson

Puppies have a very short attention span and can get bored easily which is why it is important to keep training sessions short and sweet. 3-5 minutes at different times throughout the day will keep sessions productive. If you notice signs of frustration in your puppy such as nipping, taking longer to respond or ignoring you, it is time to wrap up the session.

If your puppy seems frustrated, you might also want to consider simplifying the training and/or removing any distractions. Don’t forget to keep it sweet too! Sessions should be fun, positive and full of rewards! End sessions on a good note and follow up a with a fun reward such as play or a walk.
